The Average Workday
Greetings and aloha everyone!
Before moving home for the COVID-19 pandemic I was working at BYU-Hawaii as a Service Center Supervisor. It was literally the best job ever. There were definitely stressful moments, but I had fantastic mentors who helped me learn what leadership and my kuliana is while having the opportunity to be a BYUH ambassador that traveled the island to serve the community.
Leadership is using your talents to help others reach their potential. My personal kuliana is my sacred responsibility to give back to my community and family.
While in Hawaii my job consisted of traveling to different non-profits across the island and bringing volunteer students to provide labor for those non-profits. It was amazing, I loved being able to give back to the island that let me attend school on their land, things obviously took a turn when our school went remote for my last two semesters at BYUH. We no longer did visits all around our beautiful island, in fact we went completely to working in home, creating service projects that can be done remotely.
What was unexpected however, was that I had my favorite business partner waiting for me in Colorado.
This is my baby brother, he joins me in my "office" almost everyday for different amounts of time. He likes to eat my fingers and sleep in my arms. He has baby barfs all the time so I smell like I'm outside working the lo`is (water taro patches) just I did in Hawaii. He is hands down the best part about working from home.
Since I am graduating soon, I've been trying to find a job that is just as meaningful as the Service Center. Today, I got hired into a job that I will be able to use most of the skills I learned in Hawaii while also being able to benefit the community. The company name is The Aloha Way, and I jumped at the opportunity because I miss Hawaii! I am so excited to be working with these people and giving back to the community that I grew up in!
I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to work in an environment that is meant to bless others, and I am even more grateful that I got to spend these last few months with my favorite little man. Life is good everyone, we can find joy even in the hard times, it is so possible! The Lord loves us and if we look, we can find His hand all through our lives.
